विवरण :
सुपारी के पेड़ ताड़ और नारियल की भांति ऊँचा होता है तथा खम्भे के सामान सीधा जाता है। सुपारी पेड़ के पत्ते बड़े बड़े होते हैं तथा सबसे ऊपर बेर के सर के सामान कुछ लम्बाई हुए गोल फल निकलते हैं। फलों की छीलने पर सुपारी निकलता है। सुपारी का पेड़ उष्णकटिबंधीय भारत, बांग्लादेश, जापान, श्रीलंका, दक्षिण चीन, पूर्वी इंडीज, फिलीपींस और अफ्रीका के कुछ हिस्सों में व्यापक रूप से पाए जाते हैं ।
जीहानी ,श्रीवर्धनी , मानिकचंदी ,चिकनी इसकी प्रमुख प्रजातियां हैं।
गुण :
सुपारी स्वभाव से भारी ,शीतल,रुक्ष,कसैली,मोहजनक एवं अग्निदीपक होता है। सुपारी रुचिकारक तथा कफ और पित्त को जीतने वाली होती है। यह मुख की विरसता को दूर करती है।
कच्ची सुपारी भारी , अगनिश्यांदि, जठराग्नि को हारने वाली होती है तथा नेत्र दृष्टि को कमजोर कराती है।
चिकनी सुपारी वाट,पित्त,कफ (त्रिदोष ) को नाश करने वाली। जिस सुपारी का मध्यभाग कढोर होता है वह उत्तम होती है।

An Account:
The betel nut tree is as tall as palm and coconut and goes straight to the pillar. The leaves of the betel nut tree are large and at the top the plum head produces some lengthof round fruits. When the fruits are peeled, the betel nut comes out. Betel nut trees are widely found in tropical India, Bangladesh, Japan, Sri Lanka, South China, East Indies, Philippines and parts of Africa.
Jihani, Srivardhani, Manikchandi, Chikani are the major species.
Quality:
Raw betel nut is heavy, aganisandi, defeats the gastrointestinal tract and weakens the eye sight.
A smooth betel nut that destroys the baat, bile, phlegm( tridosha). The betel nut which has a solid is the best.
